Top Rarest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Toys 2023. After over 40 years, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) franchise continues to generate revenue.

The pizza-obsessed turtles have been the protagonists of a number of comic books, animated shorts, and feature films. In addition, there is a sizable market for collectible action figures and several other types of toys based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise.

Although some of the toys on this list were one-of-a-kind accidents and others were unique limited editions, all of the figurines on this list are extremely uncommon.

They are available at a wide range of prices, with some costing as little as ten dollars and others costing hundreds of dollars.

  • First Appearance in Franchise: 1984 comic book series
  • Cost Today: $50 – $150

As part of the festivities for the TMNT’s twenty-fifth anniversary, many limited edition action figures were made available.

These included all of the turtles, their instructor Splinter the rat, several of their adversaries, including Bebop the mutant punk rock pig, and any other members of the group who were there. In addition, a weapon suited to each figure was included in the package.

The fact that their heads and hands could move was one of the remarkable elements that contributed to their realism.

The toys may still be found online with a reasonable amount of ease, but the prices for individual items can run into hundreds of dollars.

Did you know that the turtles are named after Renaissance artists for the simple reason that the people who created them were interested in art history?

2. Soft Head Action Figures

  • First Appearance in Franchise: 1984 comic book series
  • Cost Today: $40

Toys based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were initially manufactured with heads fashioned from a substance that was malleable, soft, and inexpensive to produce.

This was done as a precaution in the event that the toys did not sell particularly well. Because they were successful, the company decided to make all of the succeeding toys and action figures out of material that was more long-lasting.

As a direct consequence of this, soft-headed action figures are quite uncommon in today’s market.

Before the year 2001, the name of the turtle Michelangelo was incorrectly spelt as “Michaelangelo.” In 2001, the creators were presented with the option to make a change, and they seized the opportunity.

3. Genghis Frog Tan Belt Variant

  • Year: 1989
  • First Appearance in Franchise: 1987 television series
  • Cost Today: $50

The belts that came with the Genghis Frog action figures were supposed to be black, but some retailers accidentally sold them with tan belts instead.

The price difference between these two iterations is substantial; although the version with the black belt can be purchased today for only under $10, the version with the tan belt can be purchased for around $50.

The character is a member of the Punk Frogs, a band of mutant frogs that Shredder, the turtles’ sworn enemy, produced and brainwashed.

In the series, the frogs initially think that the turtles are malicious, but they change their minds after they learn the reality.

The tutor of the turtles gave them the names of well-known artists since he loved their work. In the same manner, Shredder gave the frogs the names of infamous military heroes and dictators because he liked these individuals.

  • Year: 1992
  • First Appearance in Franchise: 1987 television series
  • Cost Today: $150 – $200

The Toon Turtles release included a Toon Burne figure as one of the playable characters. It should come as no surprise that there are no more miniatures based on this figure.

This one did not sell very well, which is possibly due to the fact that the main character, Burne Thompson, is nothing more than an ordinary human journalist who possesses no unique abilities.

His action figure comes with a television, cell phone, loudhailer, press pass and a sword sandwich, which is not exactly the exciting stuff that TMNT fans anticipate receiving with their merchandise.

Bernadette Thompson, portrayed by Whoopi Goldberg in the live-action TMNT movie that came out in 2014, took the role of Burne Thompson.

  • First Appearance in Franchise: None
  • Cost Today: $300

A non-canonical character in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, Hot Spot is a mutated Dalmatian that fights fires.

Because he did not become available as a toy until 1992, he is both an uncommon personality and an unusual action figure.

Even though Hot Spot is not technically a part of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles canon, the Turtlepedia entry for him indicates that he is a friend of the turtles.

His action figure came with accessories like a gas mask, a fire hydrant, and a fighting axe.

  • Year: 2017
  • First Appearance in Franchise: 1984 comic book series
  • Cost Today: $649.95

Because it was designed only for the Chinese market, the TMNT DreamEX set could not be purchased in any other country.

On a scale of one six hundred, the set included all four turtles as well as supporting characters from the franchise.

The action figurines, which are also known as collectibles, have an impressive level of detail, including clearly delineated muscles, veins, and skin textures.

In addition to the figures, a variety of accessories, such as weapons and pizza slices, are included in the package.

Their hands are interchangeable, allowing for a variety of poses to be achieved. Raphael’s name is spelled “Raphael” throughout this series, which is an obvious typo.

Did you realize that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book series was a rough and gloomy one? When it was adapted for television, it went through a number of changes to make it more kid-friendly.

Even though there are multiple different versions of the Super Shredder action figure, the ones with the black armor and the ones with the purple armor are the most difficult to find.

Only through an improbable collaboration with the canned food company Chef Boyardee was it possible to purchase the black-suited Super Shredder. Requests to receive the items from children were received by mail.

Did you know that there are three different versions of Super Shredder? To begin, Shredder is a normal human being.

Then, the mutant known as Super Shredder appeared. He was later resurrected, but this time he appeared to be dead.

Due to the use of materials of a lower grade in the production of this edition of the toy, the purple Super Shredders are more prone to becoming damaged.

The thirty-year anniversary collection, in contrast to the twenty-fifth-anniversary collection, was not made available to the general public.

Instead, purchasers have to be present at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con in order to make their purchase.

The sets were packaged in one of two unique collectors’ cases, each with retro-inspired artwork depicting either Shredder and his henchmen or the turtles themselves.

In addition to pizza, nunchucks, and swords, the ninja turtle set is included with all four of the characters in the series.

The other group consisted of Shredder and his minions, all of whom were armed with firearms and swords.

10. Scratch the Cat

Rarest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Toys
  • Year: 1993
  • First Appearance in Franchise: 1987 Video Game
  • Cost Today: $3,450

Collectors and TMNT fans agree that the Scratch the Cat action figure is the most difficult to find of all the toys in the queue.

In the same vein as Hot Spot, Scratch the Cat is not featured in either the TMNT television series or the film franchise.

There is not much information available about the character, other than the fact that he is a mutant cat and that he robs banks while using his claws as weapons.

The action figure was only available in a limited quantity in 1993, and there are no more variations of Scratch.

Did you know that Nickelodeon purchased the TMNT franchise in 2009 for a total of sixty million dollars?
