Percy Tau Salary at Al Ahly 2024: Percy Tau is a professional soccer player from South Africa who now plays for Al Ahly SC of the Egyptian Premier League and the South African national team.

Percy Tau’s possible transfer to Egyptian giants Al Ahly has been in the news for a few weeks. On Wednesday, August 25, the South African striker was finally spotted in Al Ahly colors in Egypt. Percy Tau has arrived in Egypt ahead of his blockbuster transfer to Al Ahly, managed by Pitso Mosimane.

During his time with Sundowns, he won the league title twice and the CAF Champions League once and was named Footballer of the Year and joint-top-goalscorer in his final season with the club.

Percy Tau Club Career

Tau began his professional career with Mamelodi Sundowns in the Premier Soccer League,  he was born in eMalahleni. On February 25, 2014, he made his professional debut for the club against Orlando Pirates in the league. As Sundowns lost 1–0, he came on as an 85th-minute substitute for Domingues. Tau then scored his first professional goal for the club against Golden Arrows in a Nedbank Cup encounter on March 22, 2014.

His 90th-minute goal was Sundowns’ fourth and final goal in a 4–1 victory over the Arrows. On 5 April 2015, he scored his first goal in international club competition against TP Mazembe in a CAF Champions League encounter.

In the 84th minute, he scored the Sundowns’ only goal of the game as Mamelodi Sundowns lost 3–1. Tau was placed on the club’s release list for the 2014–15 season after two seasons of sporadic appearances for Mamelodi Sundowns.

On the advice of then-youth coach Rhulani Mokwena, he was instead sent to Witbank Spurs of the National First Division.

He made his debut for the club in a 3–1 win over African Warriors on February 6, 2016, and scored three goals in 11 matches during his loan tenure.

Tau scored 11 goals in the 2017–18 season to assist Mamelodi Sundowns win the league title. His performances throughout the season earned him the Footballer of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season honors, as well as a share of the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot with Rodney Ramagalela.

Tau was courted by a number of European clubs during the off-season as a result of his achievements. In an attempt to force a move, he declined to join Sundowns in pre-season preparations, despite the rumors surrounding his future.

  • Brighton & Hove Albion

Tau signed a four-year deal with Brighton & Hove Albion of the English Premier League on July 20, 2018, for an unknown sum, rumored to be in the region of R50 million (£2.7 million), a South African record transfer fee for a local player.

After failing to get a UK work visa, Brighton manager Chris Hughton announced that Tau would be loaned out immediately after his arrival, as he wanted the South African international to receive European football experience. After being recalled from his loan stint at Anderlecht on January 7, 2021, he returned to Brighton & Hove Albion.

  • Loan to Union SG

Tau signed a season-long loan with Union SG in Belgium’s second tier, which is managed by Brighton chairman Tony Bloom. He was thrust into the first squad almost immediately and played a key role in the Belgian Cup during the first half of the season, scoring four goals in six games to assist the club reach the semi-finals following historic victories against Anderlecht and Genk.

Tau was one of three players nominated for the Player of the Season award in April 2019, with teammate Faz Selemani, after scoring six goals and contributing seven assists to help Union complete the season in second place. He ultimately won the award and was named in the league’s team of the season.

  • Loan to Club Brugge

Tau completed a loan deal with Belgian club Club Brugge for the 2019–20 season on July 29, 2019. He made his debut for the club against Sint-Truiden on August 2, 2019, scoring in a 6–0 home triumph. On the 13th of August, he was sent off for a second bookable offence in only his second Champions League game, a 3–3 away tie against Dynamo Kiev. Brugge was defeated 4–3 on the whole. On October 1, Tau played in a 2–2 tie at Real Madrid, where he assisted the first goal.

Due to Covid–19, the competition came to an end in May with one games remaining. Club Bruges was crowned champion after Percy Tau played 18 league matches and scored three goals.

  • Loan to Anderlecht

Tau joined a one-year loan with Belgian club Anderlecht on August 4, 2020. On August 16, 2020, he made his Anderlecht debut, coming on as a substitute in the 64th minute against Sint-Truiden and scoring his first goal as Anderlecht won 3-1.

Tau made his South African debut in a 0–2 loss to Angola in a 2016 African Nations Championship qualifying match on October 17, 2015.

After earning a yellow card two minutes earlier, he scored his first international goal in the 69th minute against Guinea-Bissau on March 25, 2017.

Tau has been chosen to South Africa’s team for the 2019 African Cup of Nations. He started all five games for his country, who advanced to the quarter-finals before losing to Nigeria, denying them a place in the semi-finals.
