20 Worst Colleges in America 2024

The 20 Worst Colleges in America. There are a number of factors to think about before committing to a college education.

The greatest institution for you will be the one that meets all of your specific requirements. You should think about things like the school’s reputation, the employment rate of its graduates, and the cost.

Even if they cost less or are more conveniently located, you should avoid attending some universities. How can you know whether a university is a terrible fit?

The average student debt, the return on investment over 20 years, the graduation rate, the median beginning income, the annual cost, and the overall ranking of the institution are all items to consider, although everyone has their own perspective on the topic.

We have also added schools that restrict student speech from The Advocate’s list of institutions that don’t measure up and from The Washington Monthly’s cheat sheet.

Based on our research, the following are the 20 universities in the United States that performed the worst in our rankings.

The annual tuition is $22,000 for in-state students and $35,000 for out-of-state students, and graduates have an average debt of $25,484 and a median starting income of $38,300. A meager $20,200 is earned on the investment.

19. The University of South Carolina at Aiken

Formed in 1961, USC Aiken is one of the state’s oldest universities. Undergraduate enrollment is little around 3,400 at this relatively new public university.

18. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Eastern New York

Due to poorly designed regulations that have been exploited by the administration to stifle free speech, this university made it into a list of the worst universities in the United States.

The administration has used the threat of “eminent domain” to stop students from handing out pins and pamphlets on campus sidewalks when concerns have come to light. Without permission, not even distributing flyers is allowed on the premises.

The invocation of eminent domain as an excuse is embarrassing since it has nothing to do with the prohibited conduct and is therefore irrelevant to the case.

Also, they have taken action against students who speak out against the government’s retrograde policies to the media. Avoid attending this university until they fix their problems.

10. Mt. Sierra College (Worst Colleges in America)

This is not indicative of their teaching ability or their students’ future success. They did this because they didn’t like students campaigning for Bernie Sanders while he was a presidential contender.

While the university has a reputation for disregarding its own free speech restrictions, they have stated that its tax-exempt status was the cause for this. Since they haven’t proposed a workaround, they’ll remain on the list until they do.

7. Stratford University (Worst Colleges in America)

In the heart of Fairfax, Virginia is Stratford University. Many more attend this school on a less-than-full-time basis. Given these factors, an accurate evaluation of the school’s performance is challenging, however it has been identified as having a graduation rate of 30%.

Students at Stratford University take significantly longer to complete their degrees and incur significantly more debt as a result. The longer it takes to acquire a degree, the less likely it is that the student will really finish.

2. Morris College

Morris College, a Baptist-affiliated institution, was established in 1908 in Sumter, South Carolina. There are over a thousand first-year students at this institution, yet the technology it uses is ancient.

Cost of attendance is little under $20,000 a year, and graduates leave with an average of $26,000 in debt. Despite a $32,300 median beginning salary, just 29% of high school students go on to earn a bachelor’s degree.

1. DeVry University (Worst Colleges in America)

Due to its low graduation rate of only 29 percent, Illinois’ DeVry University has made our list of the worst colleges in the United States for 2019. In the event of graduation, the average amount of debt is $43,000.

The FTC has filed a lawsuit against the university because of its false statements to prospective students regarding their chances of finding a job in their field upon graduation. Both the graduation and borrowing rates are too high.

Avoid attending a school that is under investigation or involved in a lawsuit, as a degree from such an institution is unlikely to be taken seriously by potential employers even if you do graduate.

This is because making empty promises to students without facts to base the claims upon can get you into trouble with the legal system.
